Aichi Nagoya, Japan, to Host Asian Games 2026

The Asian Games are a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Asia. It is the second largest continental multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. It is hosted by a different city every four years, and the 20th edition will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026. The Games will be a combination of Olympic and regional sports, with unique Asian disciplines such as kabaddi and sepak takraw joining global sport like athletics.

This will be the third time that Japan has hosted the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. Organizers expect 45 national and regional sporting bodies from around the world to send more than 10,000 athletes and officials.

Aichi-Nagoya’s organizers are working hard to ensure the success of the 20th Asian Games, aiming to deliver a world-class event that will further deepen exchange within Asia and beyond. The organizing committee has already begun venue development, volunteer recruitment, and promotional activities.

Besides traditional sports, the 20th Asian Games will feature a number of new esports events. India is expected to contend for medals in these events, especially after Pavan Kampelli won a bronze in eFootball at the Hangzhou Asian Games. The new competitions include a number of popular titles – PUBG, League of Legends, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms and FIFA Online 4.

Aichi-Nagoya has a wide variety of transport options to help visitors reach venues, including the JR train network (Tokaido Shinkansen, Chuo Main Line and more), Kintetsu Railway, Nagoya Municipal Subway, and numerous bus lines. Shuttle buses will also be provided between competition venues.
